Better weather helps building work on the Eagle Valley Apartments

After an exceptionally hard winter, then spring rains, summer has finally arrived in the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains. With a steep road up to the site, a bit of dryness is to be appreciated and better progress is now being made on building work.

The picture above left shows a new addition to the equipment used on site – a 4 wheel drive concrete mixer. During the snow and then rains, Lorries really struggled to make the muddy access road and a way of quickly delivering concrete needed to be found. This machine self loads, electronically weighs its load and delivers mixed concrete in one process. Not surprisingly, it has been a great help.

Another piece of machinery now on site is a crane, as in picture below left. It supplements the mobile crane which is also used and can be seen in the picture below right. As might be imagined, using two cranes in tandem allows higher efficiency in material handling.

Pictures to left show shuttering used to contain poured concrete for walls.

EURO 2012 on track in Ukraine

There had been doubts that Ukraine would be able to complete its preparations for EURO 2012. Large stadiums had to be built and football’s governing body, FIFA, was concerned that the work might not be finished in time. However, recent reports indicate that good progress has been made, despite the very harsh winter and other problems.

Here’s an article: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=792224&cc=5739

This is important to Eagle Valley as it is on the list of approved hotels for the tournament.

Ukrainian economy stabilising

Whilst Eagle Valley borders three countries, it is nevertheless going to be affected by the economic condition of the country in which it is situated – Ukraine. And why we like to keep an eye on what’s happening economically and politically.

The Ukraine’s economy bottomed out in the last two quarters of 2009 and whilst a firm recovery is not yet apparent, there are grounds for thinking the worst is over. The important sectors of agricultural, steel and chemicals are growing again, which should lead the rest of the economy forward given time.

Since last year, there has been a change of government, lead by long time politician, Viktor Yanukovych. A more “pro Russian”, or some would say, pragmatic, stance has been taken by the new government. A deal has been struck to allow the Russians to extend their lease on the Sevastopol Naval base in exchange for higher rent and about a 30% discount in gas prices. It’s estimated the lower gas price will save the Ukrainians up to 40 billion dollars. Expensive naval base!

The new lease led to an overnight 10% increase in property prices along Crimea south coast, which is good news for the Lighthouse project overlooking Sevastopol harbour. We can see strongly increased interest from Russian buyers, both military and civilian, to compliment marketing in Ukraine. We have a list of ticket holders of international investors who will receive information on this exclusive development. It is likely the project will not be advertised in the West, such is its attraction to local and Russian buyers for holidays and retirement (of naval personnel in particular), and the only way to participate is to register.
